We’re a Riverside crew, which means we work in heat, wind, and the occasional surprise rainstorm that sends everyone scrambling for tarps. What holds us together isn’t a mission statement. Our People

Jesse Calder, Owner

Jesse started turning wrenches on garage doors in 2002, back when Riverside’s newer neighborhoods were still orange groves and dirt roads. He built Fernbrook Garage Doors Riverside around a simple idea: a repair call shouldn’t feel like a negotiation. Jesse still takes service calls most weeks, partly because he likes the work and partly because he wants to see what his crew sees. Ask him about the strangest door he’s opened and he’ll tell you about the Woodcrest house where a family of raccoons had been living in the spring line for a full season. He’ll also tell you what it cost to fix, exactly, before he touched a single bolt. Jesse lives in Riverside with his wife, two kids, and a retired racing greyhound who sleeps through every door test he runs in the garage.

Marcus D., Lead Technician

Marcus has been with Fernbrook since 2016 and handles the repairs that make other technicians pause: snapped torsion springs on 16-foot doors, seized opener rails in mid-summer heat, jammed tracks on doors that haven’t moved since winter. He’s trained across all eight brands we service, though he’ll admit Wayne Dalton setups are the ones he can diagnose blindfolded. Marcus runs most of our spring repair calls because he’s methodical about torque settings the way some people are methodical about barbecue. When he’s not working, he’s coaching his daughter’s soccer team in the evenings at Arlington Heights Sports Park.

Elena R., Senior Installer

Elena joined the crew in 2019 after years doing finish carpentry, which shows in her install work. She’s the one who notices when a frame is an eighth-inch out of level and shims it before the new door goes up. Elena specializes in full door replacements and runs point on homes where the old door was installed badly enough that nothing lines up. Clients regularly mention how quietly she works, even when a job requires cutting track and drilling into masonry. She grew up in the Casa Blanca neighborhood and knows which Riverside streets flood in February and which ones bake dry by June. Outside Fernbrook, Elena restores mid-century furniture and has strong opinions about oak veneer.

Tommy W., Service Coordinator

Tommy started as an apprentice technician, so he can talk torque and travel cables without fumbling, but his real skill is triage: knowing which calls need a same-day visit and which ones can wait a morning. He keeps a running mental map of Riverside traffic, school pickup times, and which gates in Mission Grove back up at 5 p.m. When he’s not dispatching, he’s restoring a 1970s C10 pickup that’s currently in more pieces than most garage doors see in a lifetime.
