Get your free estimateClopay Roller Replacement: The Riverside Owner’s Guide
We carry and install Clopay-compatible garage door rollers on our trucks, and most Riverside roller replacements run $110 – $220 including parts and labor. Same-day service is available when we’re already working in your area, and we quote the full price in writing before we touch anything. Most people discover a bad roller when the door starts sounding like a shopping cart with a stuck wheel, or when it shudders on the way up and gets noticeably louder as the weeks pass.
Which Clopay Models This Applies To
Clopay has used several roller configurations across their lines: the Classic series, Gallery, Coachman, Grand Harbor, Bridgeport, and the higher-end Reserve Wood doors. The compatibility question usually comes down to two things: the stem length (7-inch or 10-inch stems are the most common on Clopay track, but some Reserve doors use shorter commercial-style stems) and the wheel diameter (2-inch nylon is standard on residential, while some older Gallery doors used a 2.5-inch wheel). If the door has a tag on the edge of a panel, that tag will list the series and often the roller spec. Without the tag, a quick measurement of the wheel and stem tells us everything we need.
On the OEM-or-aftermarket question, we carry both and we’re direct about the tradeoffs. Genuine Clopay rollers are built to factory spec with sealed ball bearings and nylon wheels that run quieter on the track. Quality aftermarket equivalents from National Hardware and DURA-LIFT are often half the price and physically identical for standard 2-inch residential rollers. For Riverside’s summer heat, we prefer nylon wheels over steel regardless of brand: steel transmits more vibration through the door, and it grinds aluminum track faster. Fernbrook Garage Doors Riverside is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Clopay, but we’re factory-trained on their residential line.

Signs Your Clopay Roller Is Failing
- The door gets louder, not softer, over a few weeks. That’s the wheel bearing losing its seal, letting grit in and grease out. A roller that starts as a faint “chatter” becomes a grind once the nylon wheel stops spinning freely.
- The door hesitates or shudders halfway up. A worn roller won’t sit square in the track, so the panel drags and then pops forward. The hesitation is the door catching on the rail.
- You can see the wheel wobbling inside the track. If you watch the roller while someone opens the door and the wheel visibly wobbles or runs off-center, the bearing is done. No amount of track adjustment will fix that.
- One side of the door looks slightly lower than the other when closed. A seized roller on one side holds that panel down while the other side lifts, putting the whole door under uneven tension.
- Gray or black dust collects on the inside of the track. That’s powdered nylon from the wheel grinding against the rail. In Riverside’s dry inland air, there’s no humidity to dampen the friction.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Riverside, a full roller replacement on a standard two-car Clopay door runs $110 – $220. Here’s how that breaks down:
- 10 nylon 2-inch rollers, installed: $110 – $160 for a standard 7-panel Clopay door (10 rollers total, including the bottom and top fixtures)
- Upgraded 13-ball or sealed-bearing nylon rollers: $160 – $220 for quieter operation and longer wear
- Extra charge for 10-inch stem or 2.5-inch wheel rollers: included in the range above; we stock these on the truck, so no second trip
The price we quote is the price you pay, written down before we start. We don’t quote a low “starting at” number and then add labor, a truck fee, or a “parts surcharge” when we arrive. Labor is included. Every roller replacement is backed by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a roller we installed fails within the year, we come back and replace it, no bill, no conversation about whether it was the part or the install.
DIY or Call Us?
Rollers are one of the safer garage door parts to inspect, but most are on the brackets and hinges of a door under spring tension. The bottom roller on each side rides on a bracket that’s bolted to the door and under load, and the top fixtures carry the full cable tension. What an owner can safely do: watch the rollers for wobble, check the track for shavings, and listen for grinding. What we’d rather you not do on your own is loosen the bottom bracket bolts or remove any roller from a track: if the door shifts, a falling panel or a snapped cable can do serious damage fast. Jesse Calder learned early that the right tool in the wrong place is worse than calling someone who has done it a few hundred times. If you’ve got a noise or a wobble, call (559) 254-0605 and tell us what it’s doing – or not doing – and we’ll go from there.
FAQs
In Riverside’s dry heat, factory nylon rollers on a Clopay door typically last 7 to 10 years, though doors that cycle more than four times a day can wear bearings by year 5. Sealed-bearing rollers often push that to 12-plus years, which is why we default to them for most replacements.
No. The nylon wheel and bearing are a sealed unit, and once the bearing is gone, there’s no serviceable part inside. The repair is the replacement, and at $110 – $220 installed for ten rollers, replacing all of them at once is usually cheaper in the long run than doing them one at a time. Call (559) 254-0605 and we’ll quote it over the phone.
Most full roller replacements on a Clopay door take 45 to 90 minutes. We bring all ten rollers and the bracket hardware on the truck, so there’s no supply run in the middle of the job.
Yes. We carry 2-inch and 2.5-inch nylon rollers, 7-inch and 10-inch stems, and compatible brackets on every truck. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Genie openers if the roller wear has started to strain the operator. Written price before we start, every visit, no exceptions.
